Cyrus’s Philanthropy

Cyrus underpins philanthropies, for example, the Elton John AIDS Foundation, Entertainment Industry Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, United Service Organizations, Youth Service America and Music for Relief. In February 2010, she gave a few things, including the dress she wore to the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards, and two tickets to the Hollywood debut of her motion picture The Last Song, to fund-raise for the victims of the 2010 Haiti earthquake.

Cyrus is the organizer of the Happy Hippie Foundation, which attempts to “battle treachery confronting destitute youth, LGBTQ youth and other helpless populaces”. Beginning her Career

Miley is the daughter of country music star Billy Ray Cyrus and Leticia Jean “Tish”. Her parents named her Destiny because they believed she would accomplish great things. As a child, she was given the nickname “Smiley”, which later turned into “Miley”, because she smiled so much as a baby. Miley grew up on a 500-acre farm in Franklin, Tennessee, about an hour from Nashville.

Miley first became interested in acting when she was eight years old. Her family had relocated to Toronto, Canada while her father was filming the television series Doc. Watching him perform and a film is what inspired her to get started and after watching a Mirvish production of Mamma Mia!, Miley told her father “This is what I want to do, dad. I want to be an actress.” She then began taking voice and acting lessons at the Armstrong Acting Studio in Toronto. Her first role was a girl named “Kylie” on the show Doc.

At the age of 11, Miley heard about an audition for a new Disney television series, “Hannah Montana, about a young girl leading a double life as a teen pop star. She sent in an audition tape for the role of the best friend, but was called back to audition for the lead role “Chloe Stewart”. After sending more tapes, Miley was told she was too young and too small for the role. However, her persistence and ability to sing lead the producers to invite her back to further auditions. She eventually landed the role, and the character was renamed “Miley Stewart”.

Miley as an Actress

Hannah Montana went on to become an enormous hit and sent Miley’s career into overdrive. She suddenly became a teen idol sensation. The show premiered on March 26, 2006, to the largest Disney Channel show audience ever and became one of the highest rated basic cables shows on TV. Miley’s first single “The Best of Both Worlds” was credited to her character “Hannah Montana”, as were many of her songs from the series. While performing the singles attributed to Montana, Miley would typically dress as her character. During the second season of the hit series, Miley signed a four-album deal with Disney’s own record label Hollywood Records.

In June of 2007, she released a two-disc album that peaked at #1 on the Billboard 200. The first disc of the album was the soundtrack for the second season of Hannah Montana, while the second disc, appropriate titled Meet Miley Cyrus, was her debut album attributed to herself. From Meet Miley Cyrus, the single “See You Again” became her first Top 10 hit. In Fall of 2007, Miley launched her Best of Both Worlds tour to promote her two-disc venture. Jonas Brothers, Aly & AJ, and Everlife were the opening acts and the tour went from October 17, 2007, to January 31, 2008, with stops in both the U.S. and Canada. All tickets were sold out in minutes and were scalped for as high as $2,500.

After the successful tour came to an end, Disney released Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert, which was a 3D concert film of the tour that was expected to run for a week. The film earned $29 million at the box-office, which was twice the expected amount. Because of its success, the Disney executives decided to extend the release for an indefinite run.

Miley as Pop Star and Songwriter

In July of 2008, Miley released her second studio album entitled Breakout. The album is said to be inspired by what was going on in her life at the time. She co-wrote eight out of the twelve songs on the album. Miley has stated Songwriting is what I really want to do with my life forever, I just hope this record showcases that, more than anything, I’m a writer.” The album debuted at #1 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart. The single “7 Things” successfully reached #7 on the Hot 100. That year Miley also played the voice of “Penny” in the film Bolt.

In late 2008, Miley had begun transitioning into a more grown-up image. She negotiated a deal with Nicholas Sparks to create a film that would introduce Miley to an older audience and increase both her success and fan base. Sparks, along with Jeff Van Wie, created the film The Last Song. Production of the film went from June 2009 – August 2009. During that same year, Miley released a book titled Miles To Go and is a memoir of her life up until the age of 16.

Hannah Montana: The Movie was released in April of 2009 and the film, along with its soundtrack, achieved great success. The lead single “The Climb” became a Top 40 hit in twelve countries. While filming the movie The Last Song, Miley released the third Hannah Montana soundtrack, recorded the EP The Time of Our Lives and released its first single “Party in the U.S.A.” The single debuted at #2 on the Hot 100 and her EP was released at the same time as her clothing line co-designed with Max Azria for Walmart.

In January of 2010, production of the fourth and final season of Hannah Montana began. Her third studio album Can’t Be Tamed was released in June of that year and the first single “Can’t Be Tamed”, released in May, debuted at #8 on the Hot 100. At this stage in Miley’s career, her costumes and dances became considerably more provocative, which brought about much media controversy.

After the release of this album, Miley decided to take a break and focus on her film career. The film The Last Song was released in March of 2010 but received generally poor reviews. Despite this, the film reached commercial success, grossing more than $88 million worldwide. The final season of Hannah Montana began airing in July of 2010 and is scheduled to end in 2011.

In 2011, they provided the Saturday Live and showed on the MTV arrangement punk’d. The next year, she featured in two or three motion pictures including, ‘Sex and the City 2’, ‘LOL’, ‘So Undercover’ and the 3D show film, ‘Justin Bieber: Never Say Never’.
